3. Sign up for exclusive offers. Visit your favorite restaurants’ websites and sign up for their newsletters or join their “clubs”.  You will usually receive special offers in your email for discount dining and often free treats on your birthday.

4. Ask for a lunch portion. Don’t pay full price for a meal too big to eat.  Many restaurants are happy to serve you a lunch portion at night.

5. Inquire about happy hour specials. Some restaurants run happy hour specials on appetizers that could substitute as an entre.  A quick and easy way to get your meal half off!

I’m really excited about CiCi’s Pizza’s Ultimate Pizza Party. My little family doesn’t eat out much, but when we do we like to go to a buffet in order to get in and out quick. Recipe Roundup: Strawberries

This is the perfect time of year for buying strawberries.  This edition of “Recipe Roundup” features recipes with strawberries as a main ingredient.

Joy of Baking has a recipe for Strawberry Bread.  This bread is made using what I call the “muffin method”.  OK, that’s actually what Alton Brown calls it, but who’s keeping track.

Suite101 has excellent instructions on baking your own strawberry cheesecake.  (New York style with a graham cracker crust and strawberry topping!)

Here is a strawberry daiquiri recipe just the way I like it.

My favorite way to use strawberries is to make a fresh fruit smoothie.  I put a cup of fresh strawberries and a ripe banana into my blender.  Then I pour apple juice up to the 1 cup line on the blender and blend.  So easy and soooo yummy!

Tips for using strawberries:

* Do not wash your strawberries until you are ready to use them.

* The inside of a strawberry is delicate.  Wash them before you cut them - not after.

* Store your strawberries uncovered in a colander in the refrigerator.  (I use a salad spinner to store, wash, then dry them.)
